Burke Lake: Butterflies by the lake shore

어제도 보고, 오늘도 다시 발견한 것.  

보통 배추 흰나비보다 날개 길이가 훨씬 큰 이 나비들이 다섯, 여섯마리씩 무리를 지어 물이 찰랑거리는 호숫가 축축한 흙에 모여 앉아 '무엇인가'를 한다.

짝짓기를 하는것 같지 않지만, 내가 상상 할 수 있는 것은 -- '짝짓기'와 '알 낳기' 밖에 더 있겠나. (나비에 대해서 굉장히 무식한 나.)

물가에 알을 낳는다는 말인가?  (알이 떠내려 갈텐데?)

아무튼 이 친구들은, 처음에 내가 다가갔을 때에는 화들짝 놀라서 날아 오르더니, 내가 움직이지 않고 그자리에 그대로 있자, 겁도 없이 내가 카메라 (전화)를 막 들이대는데도 그 자리에 꼼짝도 않고 있다.  뭔가를 하기는 하는 것 같은데, 뭘 하는지 물어봐도 대답을 안한다.

사진에는 두마리, 한마리 이렇게 찍혀있지만, 두마리씩 쌍을 지어 서 있기도 하고 혼자 있기도 하다가, 저리 날아가서 셋, 셋 이렇게 무리를 지어 있기도 하고. 

나비 구경 실컷 했다. 바람 솔 솔 부는 호숫가에서. 물결소리 찰랑찰랑.

나비를 보면, 영화 <빠삐용>이 생각나고, 주제곡에 가사를 붙인 Free as the wind 노래 가사가 떠오르고,  영화에 나오는 무수한 나비떼. 나비 사냥 그런것이 일제히 떠오른다.
